Distinctions & Press

Six recognitions, and the reporting that documents them

Maison Boire opened on June 17, 2017. Six distinctions have followed: two from an international guide, one from a national environmental certification body, one from a provincial sourcing programme, one from a tourism alliance, and a Canadian ranking.

This page does not summarize them. For each one it gives the year, the exact name, what it rewards, who awards it, and the articles that reported it. Every link has been checked.

Maison Boire is in the MICHELIN Guide selection. The Guide distinguishes four separate things: the selection, the Stars, the Bib Gourmand and the Green Star. We are in the selection. We do not write it any other way.

2025 and 2026 · MICHELIN Guide selection

What it rewards. A restaurant’s inclusion in the Guide’s selection, following anonymous inspector visits. The selection is the Guide’s front door: it attests to the quality of the cooking, without being a Star.

Who awards it. The MICHELIN Guide, through its inspectors.

What happened. The MICHELIN Guide published its first-ever Québec edition in 2025. Maison Boire appeared in it. In May 2026, at the second edition, the house was retained — one of five Eastern Townships tables to keep its place.

Who awards it. Aliments du Québec, through its Aliments du Québec au menu programme, presented at the annual gathering of the Association Restauration Québec (ARQ).

What happened. On November 16, 2021, Maison Boire was named grand winner of the 4th edition of the award. The jury cited a complete approach in which the environment sits at the centre of the culinary practice, and a menu built on local, organic, minimally processed ingredients.

2019 · Excellence in Tourism Award — Sustainable Tourism Initiative

What it rewards. The grand prize in the Sustainable Tourism Initiative category, given to a Québec tourism business for exemplary practice. Maison Boire’s application was chosen from 220 submissions by a jury of some fifteen tourism and communications professionals.

Who awards it. The Alliance de l’industrie touristique du Québec, in collaboration with Québec’s Ministère du Tourisme.

What happened. On November 14, 2019, at the Centrexpo Cogeco in Drummondville, before nearly 350 industry figures, fifteen trophies were presented at the 3rd Excellence in Tourism Awards. Maison Boire won its category for its work toward eco-responsibility and self-sufficiency.

The story, in three paragraphs

One. On June 17, 2017, Brian Proulx opened Maison Boire in an 1893 Victorian house at 13, rue Court, Granby. He was 25. He had been working in restaurants since the age of 14, holds a diploma in international hotel management, and trained in Relais & Châteaux properties: maître d’hôtel and sommelier at Manoir Hovey, then sales and marketing assistant at La Bastide Saint-Antoine in Grasse. The house had been acquired in December 2016 by Kevin Proulx and John Proulx — Immeuble Provek — and fully renovated with designer Marie-Pier Morissette.

Two. What sets the house apart is fire, and self-sufficiency. All cooking is done over maple wood, in full view of guests at the chef’s counter. Behind and above the restaurant: gardens, a rooftop garden warmed by heat reclaimed from the grill, a greenhouse, growing towers, beehives, a henhouse, and a pottery studio that throws the service ware. Seventeen producers are mapped with their distances; sixteen are within 120 km. That practice earned Maison Boire LEAF Level 3 certification in 2019, the grand prize for Sustainable Tourism Initiative the same year, first place in Canada under the LEAF programme in 2020, and the Restaurateur of the Year Award from Aliments du Québec au menu in 2021.

Three. In January 2024, photographic artist Rizlane Abdessamad became co-owner; her work turned the walls into a gallery. In 2025, the MICHELIN Guide published its first Québec edition and included Maison Boire in its selection. In 2026, the house was retained. It seats 48 in the dining room and 30 on the terrace, Wednesday through Saturday, an hour from Montreal.
